Being an inquisitive person from rural Nova Scotia, I have always been exploring, finding my way out to the wild edges, whether geographic, intellectual, or imaginative.
-Dr. Nathan Corbett MD MSc (2021)
I am a practicing psychiatrist focusing on full-scope (inpatient and outpatient) general adult psychiatry. I have specific interests in mood disorders, trauma and stressor disorders, clinical and science education, disability studies, and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
Qualifications
I am a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, licensed to practice psychiatry in the province of Nova Scotia.
I completed my residency training at the University of Toronto, where I worked and learned on the front lines during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent mental health and housing crises.
I obtained my MD from Dalhousie University.
I hold an MSc in Experimental Medicine from the University of British Columbia, where I specialized in molecular biology, molecular developmental immunology, cytogenetics, and immunogenetics.
My BScH from Acadia University included recognition as a University Scholar and numerous scholarships and awards, including a Killam-Fulbright Fellowship for study in the United States, a scholarship for honors thesis research at the Weizmann Institute in Israel (transplantation immunology), and a summer studentship at the Terry Fox Laboratories in Vancouver, BC (telomere cytogenetics).
Teaching Experience
Throughout my academic and clinical training career, I have been actively engaged in teaching. I have held numerous teaching assistant positions during my BSc and MSc studies and have volunteered to teach seminars and clinical simulation days during my medical training. I joined the University of Torontoβs Academy of Resident Teachers in 2018, though that initiative (like many) did not survive the COVID-19 crisis.
